Riverdale Share 20th Anniversary Concert December, 2012

The Riverdale Share Board of directors’ announces that the Riverdale Share Concert will take a hiatus in 2011 due to family health issues affecting one of their key organizers. The twentieth anniversary show is now slated for December of 2012.

“We are really looking forward to putting on the best show ever to celebrate our 20th anniversary,” said Susan Baker, Executive Director of Riverdale Share. “It is amazing to look back over the years and see what we have achieved as a community to help our neighbours in need. The volunteers, performers and local businesses have a lot to be proud of and I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication. I look forward to continuing our work together as we prepare for our twentieth show in 2012.”

“We are very excited about the 2012 show,” said Jennifer Volk, board chair and a volunteer who has been involved with the show for the past 12 years “We will be bringing back many of the entertainers who performed in the very first shows and of course there will be exciting new performers. We are looking forward to seeing all the ‘old timers’ who have attended since the beginning, as well as welcoming the ‘new timers’ as we launch our first concert of the next two decades”

A very personal message from Susan Baker, Executive Director of Riverdale Share.

As is the case in a tight-knit community such as ours, word travels fast, so by now I expect you have heard about the difficult decision that we, the board of RSCA, have had to make with regard to the staging of the 20th Anniversary of the Riverdale Share Concert. I can confirm that this celebration will now take place in December 2012. While this much-loved annual event is sure to be missed this holiday season – we are thrilled to be able to contribute an extra year of planning and preparation to ensure that the 20th Anniversary is marked in a significant and impactful way. This celebratory performance is not only a finale for our first two extraordinary decades, but will also launch us into the many decades to come!

Our dedication, commitment and boundless enthusiasm for this cause is unwavering, however as our dear friend, the late Jack Layton poignantly expressed, it is important to take time out when life challenges us in other ways. On that note, I wanted to share with you the very personal reasons that have led to this hiatus. My 86-year-old father, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, has been given only a few short months to live. This was devastating news for our family. He was living alone, 3,000 miles away in Nanaimo, British Columbia, so we brought him to Toronto to care for him through the end of his life. We have moved to a beautiful house on Toronto Island in order to create a peaceful and comfortable environment for us all to share his last days.

Given the attention that is necessary to caring for someone very ill, I was not confident in my ability to fulfill my role in producing the 20th Anniversary Show. As you know this organization and helping to create this remarkable annual event is my life’s passion and I look forward to our continued work towards the 2012 event.

Riverdale Share is a voluntary effort that succeeds because of this community’s passion and compassion. Your contributions, which take many forms, have given life to an event that has enriched all of our lives and reached out to a community in need. How do we say thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do, other than to tell you that we will persevere and the very best is yet to come.

Care enough to share,

Susan
